Impressive sound insulation for glazed room concepts

Innovative DORMA Hüppe partition system sets new mark in the marketplace

Westerstede/Germany. DORMA, the international market leader for operable partitions, has premiered a new product destined to provide creative architects and builders with a new degree of design freedom. For the first time, MOVEO Glass enables the incorporation of operable, transparent room partitioning systems with Rw sound reduction indices of up to 50 dB. “Our movable glass walls combine acoustic and aesthetic excellence while also creating new scope for interior architectural concepts. For the user, it means significantly more light, more silence and more space,” emphasises Christian Scheller, Managing Director of DORMA Hüppe.

The MOVEO Glass system combines generous transparency with superb sound insulation, refined operational convenience and extensive variability. Double-skin glazed wall systems, the frame section widths of which are reduced to a minimum, ensure an unhindered view both outside and in. The slender profiles measure just 13 mm along the longitudinal sides and 118 mm at the top and bottom. This ensures elegant transparency within a modern design “framework”. The sound protection values available range up to RW = 50 dB (laboratory value measured to EN20140) – an index that is recommendable, for example, for double glazing in windows facing busy roads. The system also comes with the proven advantages of the classic MOVEO partition range. Hence, the sealing strips of the MOVEO Glass elements are also extended and retracted under electronic control with the “ComforTronic” actuation system, giving total operator convenience and eliminating the need for specialist knowledge.

MOVEO Glass: transparent, sound insulating, conveniently operable

In the Spiekeroog Centre with its gallery and artists’ studio, the advantages of this innovative system are truly apparent. This exceptional cultural establishment located on the eponymous North Sea island was the first project in which MOVEO Glass elements were installed. “Our centre needs to be versatile in the way it is used so that we can maximise our space and cost efficiency. At the same time, our exhibition concept requires a creative, stimulating environment. An open, generous room structure is therefore essential,” emphasises Niels Stolberg, initiator and owner of the centre and sole managing partner of Bremen’s Beluga shipping company.

While the façade provides alluring views inside and out thanks to a clever mix of glass and brick, flexible sliding wall elements from DORMA Hüppe keep the interiors fluid and adaptable. Since the centre was opened in the summer of 2007, partitions from the classic MOVEO range have ensured almost unlimited multi-functionality. Now, in the top floor, the MOVEO Glass system adds a further dimension – providing guests and visitors with an unhindered view of the tidelands and mudflats extending towards the shoreline. Inquisitive visitors are also provided with an instant view of current exhibitions, courses or workshops without affecting the concentration of the participants. The MOVEO Glass system thus also constitutes a modern tool of enticement while at the same time offering a convenient solution for conducting an interruption-free seminar programme within an open and transparent environment.

Configurable, multi-use spaces without the trade-off

The MOVEO Glass system not only opens up new horizons within educational and leisure settings but also – and in particular – in restaurants hotels and similar hospitality businesses, as well as office complexes. Conference rooms and smaller individual units, VIP lounges and public-access areas, not to mention smoker and non-smoker zones, can thus be situated side by side and then changed again at any time to accommodate the new size and function required. “With our sound-insulating glass partitions, architects and operators are able to utilise space much more effectively. MOVEO movable walls serve to create quiet working conditions even within an interactive, lively and animated environment – with variability and multi-functional adaptability integral to the package,” explains Jörg Tholen, Product Manager at DORMA Hüppe in listing the many advantages of the system. Thanks to this seminal solution, silent rooms and noisy spaces can be planned and placed wall-to-wall, with each room offering excellent natural lighting conditions – because that much coveted influx of daylight is now no longer limited to areas near to a window. The full depth of the room is now open and exposed to natural illumination. And these light-flooded zones offer a great deal of potential for new, even unusual room structures. Where required, fully automatic blinds can also be integrated in order to provide for privacy and protection against glare or light. Coloured glass, screen printing and artistic designs can likewise be incorporated to add further refinement to these movable walls.

Moreover, MOVEO Glass configurations ideally combine with fullwall and functional elements from the classic MOVEO range – equipped, for example, with passdoors or even with acoustically lined elements to reduce resonance. Spatial areas are quickly, flexibly and easily adapted to changing requirements, while users and observers enjoy all the technical and visual benefits of a uniform MOVEO design.
