Home for the elderly in Torgau, province of Leipzig

The new home for the elderly in Torgau - a small town in the province of Leipzig,
Germany - was completed ready for its occupants. With this project, Volkssolidarität
Bundesverband e.V. - Germany's national senior citizens' association - as the
commissioning body has created a high-spec accommodation centre with 60
places comprising 48 single and six double rooms.
Thanks to careful management of the building work from planning through to completion, all the rooms offer the very best in comfort and design, meeting in full the special needs of the elderly and infirm. Products from DORMA Hüppe were incorporated as major components in the ingenious and life enhancing structural solutions adopted: the flexible Variflex, Varitrans and Variplan movable wall systems implemented provide both space and flexibility for the occupants, enabling them to pursue an active life in which they themselves have more than just an element of control.

The movable wall arrangements adopted mean that they have the best of both worlds – the dignity of privacy plus the benefits of a lively community whenever they feel like company. The lounge, for example, feature a Variflex movable wall offering a high level of sound insulation for effective division as and when required.

The smoothly extending Variplan folding walls likewise increases the spatial configuration possibilities of the common room.

The foyer also offers visitors a pleasant atmosphere with generous use of light and space. The slightly curving Varitrans movable wall screens the adjoining lounges,
providing a visual barrier with excellent transparency to give plenty of light from both sides.

At the Torgau home for the elderly, the outstanding solutions from DORMA Hüppe
effectively demonstrate how modern values enhancing quality of life can be harmoniously instilled into an interior design.

2.4 m high, two wings, total length 3.8 m; arranged below a roof pane with cladding, track recessed in the ceiling, elements of one wing disappear into a cupboard wall (niche) when opened;
